The jackets in the Grande armée, evolved and were modified over the years.
In the 1812 model, the skirts were shortened after years of military campaigns and military economic wear, so the trimming was a purely practical measure to save textile material in the troop's wardrobe, in the jackets of official ranks, the skirt it was still longer.

This model already incorporates the crowned N as a symbol of the emperor, leaving behind the star and the fleur-de-lis in designs from previous years.
